Birds of the Day

Recently become a bit of a birding fanatic so I thought we could share our bird or birds of the day. If you’re not yet a birder, highly recommend the Merlin app and prepare yourself to become obsessed.

John took me up to an incredible birding refuge about 2 hours north of where we live in California, 100 square miles nearly of wetland where 1000s of migratory birds stop on their journey. We were a little late for the big herds but we still saw loads of fabulous ones including
1 northern harrier being chased by a red-winged blackbird
1 western meadowlark
2 marsh wrens, the voice on those tiny guys is immense, deafening and they’re absolutely minute
3-4 western kingbirds (super cute, I love a flycatcher)
5-6 white faced ibis
2 American avocets
1 blue heron
1 snowy egret
a herd of swallows (not sure what kind)
a brownheaded cowbird
1000s of ducks and geese including two or three lots of goslings
loads of hares/jack rabbits, 3 lizards and not a single other human!

Oh and two nights ago I went forest bathing at some amazing vernal pools and we saw a barn owl :owl:

How about you? What bird or birds have you seen today ?:black_bird::swan::duck:
